A few days ago, ZF demonstrated a new 2-speed transmission for electric passenger cars on the Global Technology Day, which integrates advanced motors, shifting elements and corresponding power electronics. Compared with the previous generation transmission, the energy conversion efficiency of the new product has been greatly improved, which has significantly improved the battery life. Its compact design also meets the assembly requirements of compact passenger cars. The system adopts a modular design, and can be mounted on sports cars and high-performance cars through post-adjustment and upgrades.
Bert Hellwig, Head of System Integration, ZF Electric Drive Division, said: "For electric vehicles used in daily life,That said, it is essential to increase the battery life as much as possible. For every 1% increase in energy conversion efficiency, the cruising range will increase by 2%. "In order to improve the performance level of the new electric drive system, ZF has developed a new type of motor with a maximum rated power of 140kW, equipped with two-stage shifting elements. Hellwig said: "We use the motor, gearbox and power electronics field The relevant professional knowledge mastered enables the car to reach the maximum mileage after each charge. "
It is understood that the energy consumption of vehicles with the new 2-speed transmission will be significantly reduced. Compared with the single-speed transmission, the cruising range is increased by up to 5%; shifting can be performed at a speed of 70km/h The new 2-speed transmission can be connected to the vehicle's CAN communication according to customer needs, and can also be connected to a digital map and GPS to realize the shift function. For example, the vehicle can recognize the distance to the next charging station through GPS route programming, Switch to the power saving (Eco) mode to predict and respond. In inter-provincial driving and inter-city driving, shifting efficiency will also be improved. Transmission software can be downloaded and wirelessly upgraded by connecting to a cloud server.
The new 2-speed transmission provides automakers with two options for improving energy conversion efficiency. OEMs can choose to extend the battery life while keeping the battery size unchanged, or they can choose to use a smaller battery.
